39 Weeks
May 18th, 2008
My wife never ceases to amaze me. She’s 39 weeks pregnant and still goes to work full time, and will continue to go to work right up until her due date on the 25th. Through all the back aches, ankle swelling, and having to use the bathroom every 5 minutes she still manages to get up in the morning and deal with the grind of a 9-5 day at work, and I love her for it.
I took this photo in hopes that it will be the last photo taken during pregancy. She hates it, so of course I had to post it!

Tell your wife I think she looks very nice. I remember my wife hated the same kinds of photos, but now we’re both so glad to have them.
I’m still amazed when I look at my 2 & 4 year old. Now they’re so big, it’s hard to imagine that they fit in mommy’s belly (well, not really her belly, but you get what I mean).
Positive energy and an easy healty birth to you all!
Peace,
Joey

I have a question about hyperechoic bowel, unlike yours our baby’s did not go away. We declined amnio but did get a quad test and CF test everything was negative. It seems to be an isolated soft marker, that and I just turned 35 in April, our baby is due in June. Can you tell me anything to settle my heart. My Doctor seems to only use the statistics. Are ‘normal’ baby’s born with echoic bowels too?

@Sharon
I completely understand your concern. It’s very disheartening to hear about anything that could potentionally harm your baby, no matter how low the statistic. But that’s what you have to remember, that the statistic is extremely low and that hyperechoic bowel is often a normal variant that has no effect on the baby at all.
There’s not much else I can say except to keep your hopes up, keep monitoring, and have faith in your doctors, they know what they’re talking about!
Here is some info I found on the internet that may help you feel a little better:
“How reliable is an “echogenic bowel” diagnosis from a sonographer?
An ultrasound machine uses soundwaves (not radiation) to look at your baby. These soundwaves bounce back at different speeds – like an echo in a cave. Soundwaves that connect with solid tissue (like bone) bounce back faster and show up brighter than soundwaves that connect with less dense structures (like liver). Echogenic bowel simply means that the baby’s bowel appears more dense than usual and looks brighter than normal on the ultrasound.
Now, it’s important to note that the ultrasound machines can be set to different frequencies and that this can cause differentiations in the “brightness” of the results. In one study. using an 8 MHz frequency, the radiologists interpreted 31% of cases as having echogenic bowel, whereas using the 5 MHz frequency, the radiologists interpreted only 3% of the cases as having echogenic bowel. Using the 8 MHz frequency, at least one of the radiologists interpreted echogenic bowel in 62% of the cases!”

Good luck Sharon, and I’m sure everything will turn out okay. It always does.
